How is our community designed?

Each family has its own house with a small yard around it. All the houses are clumped together in one portion of the land, and all face toward a central location. Walkways connect the houses, so that we walk wherever we need to go, and we spend more time outside.

Small, private yards, usually enclosed by fences. One large shared outdoor space, with fields, woods and central mowed lawn.
Cars cross sidewalks. Front yards, where they exist, are next to the road, making it unsafe for play. Walkways from parking area to housing so it is safe for us to walk and play.
The large garage takes up space that could be a porch for being together. Parking area is set apart from activity area.
Most people don’t know their neighbors. We spend more time together outside. Mingling happens.
